Methodology

How a Quality Saving comparison is researched, written, and kept current.

Research-based, not "hands-on"

Our comparisons are built from desk research. We do not buy, borrow, or benchmark products in a lab, and we never claim hands-on testing we haven't done. If a page on this site ever describes personal use of a tool, it will say so explicitly; everything else is documented research, and we write it that way.

Sources, in order of authority

1. The vendor's official pricing page — the source of truth for every price we publish. Each comparison links to it.
2. Official documentation and support pages — for plan limits, billing rules (for example, whether an annual plan exists at all), seat counting, and cancellation terms.
3. Published plan terms — renewal, refund, and trial conditions that change what a plan really costs.

Third-party roundups are useful for discovering what to check, never as the source of a number we publish. If we cannot verify a price from an official source, we mark it as needing verification and leave it out rather than guessing.

Prices are dated and re-checked

Every comparison carries a "Prices checked: [date] — sources linked" line. Prices in USD, US market, before tax, unless a page says otherwise. We re-check the prices behind live comparisons on a rolling schedule and update the checked date when we do. Vendors change prices without notice, so the vendor's own page is always the final authority at checkout.

How a "best value" verdict is reached

Value is not the lowest sticker price. We weigh, in roughly this order: the monthly and annual-equivalent price; whether a free tier genuinely covers light use; the billing-cycle saving (annual vs monthly); per-seat effects for team plans; overlap with tools a typical reader already pays for; and documented limits that force an upgrade. The verdict box at the top of each comparison states the conclusion and who it applies to — "best value for a solo writer" is a different answer from "best value for a five-person team," and we say which one we're giving.

No paid placements, ever

Vendors cannot pay to be included, ranked higher, or described more kindly. Affiliate relationships (see our Affiliate Disclosure) are a revenue mechanism, not an input to the ranking: a comparison is written from the pricing and terms first, and links are added afterwards. If a vendor has no affiliate program, it is compared on the same terms.

Corrections

Found a price we've got wrong or one that changed after our checked date? That's the most useful feedback this site can get. Contact details will be published here when the site's email is live; until then, the checked date on each page tells you how fresh its numbers claim to be.
